Bismarck police investigated two cases resulting in aggravated assault charges during the weekend.

Two men were charged with aggravated assault and now face two to five years in prison.

Police were called to a northwest Bismarck home at 8:33 p.m. Saturday in one incident.

Lt. Randy Ziegler said people were drinking at a 28-year-old Bismarck man's home, and the man became upset with a 21-year-old Bismarck man and asked him to leave.

Witnesses reported some pushing and shoving ensued, and the 28-year-old man punched the 21-year-old man.

The 28-year-old man was arrested for simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted bond Saturday night on the two misdemeanors and had not been charged by Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said another man struck the 21-year-old man with a red bat, Ziegler said.

Eric Sabot, 26, was charged with aggravated assault Monday. South Central District Judge David Reich set bond for Sabot at $3,000 cash.

Sabot faces a two-year mandatory minimum sentence if convicted for allegedly using a weapon, the bat, during an assault.

In the other report, police were called to a south Bismarck residence at 10:30 a.m. Saturday for what initially was described as a 28-year-old man with a self-inflicted stab wound.

Police found a 28-year-old man at the residence with wounds to his left ear and his stomach, Ziegler said. He said witnesses said the man was trying to kill himself.

Officers called in a detective to assist with the investigation, Ziegler said.

He said the detective determined the wounds likely were not self-inflicted.

The man's roommate, Lindsey Iron Road, 28, was charged Monday with aggravated assault. Reich set bond for him at $3,000 cash.

Iron Road faces a two-year mandatory minimum sentence and up to five years in prison if convicted because of allegations a knife was used in the assault.
