A benefit has been set up this weekend to help Bismarck native Heather Siirtola compete in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
A traditional Alaskan supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Wing fire hall. The menu includes mojakka (beef stew), kallamojakka (fish soup), flat bread, hard tack, bars and lingonberry jelly. The cost is a freewill donation.
There also will be T-shirts and hats for sale. Proceeds will go to Siirtola and her Hardcore Huskies dog team. The race starts March 1. You can get more information on Siirtola at www.hardcorehuskies.com, and find out more about the 1,150-mile race at www.iditarod.com. For more information on the benefit or to buy a T-shirt or hat now, call Joann at 701-943-2446 or Jim at 258-5922.
