FARGO - A small group led by bloodhounds plan to search rivers and lakes near Crookston, Minn., for missing college student Dru Sjodin.

The search was slated to begin on Wednesday and could last four days, depending on the weather, said Bob Heales, a private investigator and volunteer search organizer for the family.

The search could involve up to six people, including Dru's father, Allan Sjodin, Heales said.

Snow has made large-scale land searches nearly impossible, so the group plans to focus on bodies of water, including the Red and Red Lake rivers, Heales said.

Bloodhounds from Dakota Territory Search Dogs will sniff through holes in the ice, he said.

Many of the spots targeted in the search have already been looked at, but the dogs could find evidence that was overlooked, Heales said.

In the last volunteer search for Sjodin, a few dozen relatives and friends covered about 200 square miles Jan. 22-24 in Grand Forks County and neighboring Polk County in Minnesota.

Sjodin, 22, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., went missing Nov. 22 from the parking lot of a Grand Forks mall shortly after she ended a cell phone conversation with her boyfriend.

Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., a convicted sex offender living in Crookston, Minn. has been charged with kidnapping Sjodin but has denied involvement.
