A Bismarck man who pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor earlier this year was sentenced Thursday.
Scott A. Jorde, 30, was charged with having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl after having contact with her over the Internet.
South Central District Judge Robert Wefald sentenced Jorde to 10 years suspended for five years for the gross sexual imposition charge, a Class A felony, and five years suspended for five years for the corruption of a minor charge, a Class C felony. The sentences will run consecutively.
Assistant Burleigh County State's Attorney Lloyd Suhr said he has had contact with the victim and her mother and counselor during the case.
"They truly want this to be over with and this sentence would be a way to be sure Mr. Jorde is being watched," Suhr said.
Jorde was already registered as a sex offender at the time of this crime for previous charges of gross sexual imposition. In 1996, when Jorde was 22, he was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to engaging in sex with two girls under 18. One of those girls had his baby.
"He recognizes that he did wrong, but there are mitigating factors," Irvin Nodland, Jorde's attorney, told the court.
Wefald pointed out that this is the third mistake Jorde has made involving teenage girls. After sentencing him, Wefald addressed Jorde.
"I can't imagine why you think you're God's gift to women and why you keep imposing yourself on them," Wefald said. "You're skating on very dangerous ice."
