Linton - The Linton Chamber of Commerce will hold its seventh annual chili cookoff starting with cooking at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hulm's Food Center in downtown Linton. Judging and sampling will start at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $3 and the public is welcome.

Carson - St. Theresa Catholic Church will hold an Oktoberfest starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Grant County Fair Building in Carson, serving fleischkuechle, strudel, German sausage, kraut nip, knoephle and borscht soup, and more. A children's carnival, bingo and live music also will be held.

Washburn - The public is invited to an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 to tour the new Washburn Clinic building located at 1167 Borderlane Road. Food will be served during open house hours. Also, the Underwood Public Library will sponsor a pumpkin decorating contest and kids can pick up a pumpkin at the library for $3 and return it to the Medcenter One Prairieview Nursing Home on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, where they'll be displayed and judged by home residents.

Hazen - Bob Edwards, a psychiatric chaplain and therapist, will present "Ask A Question - Save A Life" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hazen High School theater. The public is invited to the program on warnings and risks of suicide and Edwards' intervention method. Also, a Hazen Winter Sports "Face Off - Mexican Style" will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the All Season's Arena in Hazen.

New Town - The Legislative Tribal and State Relations Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the 4 Bears Casino with the Native American Tribal Citizen's Taskforce. The meeting is open to the public and will be used to talk about government relations, service delivery, child support enforcement and economic development.
