Beach - The eighth annual Pumpkin Festival will be held starting at noon Oct. 12 at Gazebo Park in Beach. The event includes a fall decorating contest, art contest and show, zucchini derby, bake sale, tour de pumpkin and an outdoor evening movie.

Elgin - The Elgin hospital and care center will hold its annual community appreciation picnic and fall celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Elgin Community Center. Mott - The Harlem Ambassadors will take on a local Mott area basketball team at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Mott Armory. The community event will cost $6 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. Tickets are available at Mott businesses and the Regent Co-op Store. Also, Love and Logic parenting classes for first-timers or refresher sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 and Oct. 21 at the Mott Elementary School library. Steele - A Just Wind landowner and community meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Steele Community Center to outline preliminary plans and gather information from local landowners. Anyone interested in the wind farm project is welcome. Also, a Steele bluegrass festival will be held starting with a 5 p.m. spaghetti dinner, followed by Buffalo Station and Moose Creek Symphony, on Oct. 18 at the Steele Community Hall. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Kidder County Ambulance.

Napoleon - Local residents are hoping to raise $9,000 to construct and landscape a Centennial Garden for the Napoleon Care Center's residents and guests. Plans are to raise private donations for the project and to begin work this fall in preparation for next summer's 125th community anniversary. Watford City - Everyone is invited to the dedication of Watford City's new Main Street reconstruction project starting at 11 a.m. Saturday with a dedication and kiddie parade followed by a free fall festival luncheon at the Watford City Civic Center. The dedication is timed to coincide with the town's annual Fall Festival.

Also, the McKenzie County Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual noon luncheon and country store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Watford City Civic Center. Cost is $8 a plate for homemade soup, sandwich and pie.

Washburn - The Washburn High School drama department, under direction of Vickie Mayer, will present "The Bride of Brackenloch," a Gothic thriller, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Washburn school's old gym. Also, a public hearing on an environmental assessment for an airport project will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Washburn City Hall. A project update will be provided.

Max - Our Savior Lutheran Church at Max will hold a lutefisk and meatball supper from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at the church in Max. There will also be a bake sale and entertainment.

Stanton - The Stanton Rural Fire Protection district will hold its annual fish fry for members and invited guests at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Stanton Civic Center. The meal is potluck with the fried fish and refreshments provided by the firemen.

Oliver County - The Oliver County Commission set Wednesday as the deadline for landowners to mow along public roads in the county. Otherwise, the county may have the roadsides cut and add that expense to the landowner's property taxes.
