An early Sunday morning crash on the Standing Rock Reservation claimed the life a Fort Yates man and left two others injured, according to a report for the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Chandler Eagle Jr., 26, died in the two vehicle crash when his Chevrolet Blazer was struck by an Oldsmobile Alero. The crash occured at 5:10 a.m., two miles north of Prairie Knights Casino on Highway 24.

The Alero's passengers, Kevin Iron Road, 24, and Julie Whitebull, age unknown, were transported to Medcenter One with unknown injuries, the report said.

A spokesman for the hospital said Sunday night that Iron Road had been treated and released, and that Whitebull was never admitted.

Cassie Harrison, 24, who was driving the Alero, was uninjured.

The Highway Patrol said the accident happened as both vehicles were traveling southbound. When Eagle Jr. attempted to pass Harrison on the two-lane highway, Harrison's car went into the right shoulder and then lost control when she tried to correct back to the left, the report said.

The car drifted in front of the pickup, causing a collision that sent both vehicles into the left ditch. Eagle Jr.'s pickup flipped and caught fire while Harrison's car came to rest on its wheels, the report said.
