A nurse at a Bismarck hospital has reported being assaulted by a patient in the emergency room.

Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler said the nurse at Medcenter One reported at 1:50 a.m. Sunday that a 50-year-old Mandan man had pushed her while he was in the emergency room.

Ziegler said Mandan police brought the man to the emergency room for treatment, because he was vomiting and had prescription medications in his pocket. The man suddenly attempted to take medication and pushed the nurse into a medication cart as she tried to stop him from taking the pills.

The man has not been arrested, and the case was forwarded to the city attorney's office.

Kim Long, a spokesperson for Medcenter One, said it's up to employees to determine whether to make reports when assaulted by patients.

They are instructed to contact security when necessary, and security can help them determine whether to report such incidents.
