The North Dakota Highway Patrol is looking for a person who apparently stole a minivan, then later took a trooper on a high-speed chase before crashing the van and escaping on foot.
According to reports, a patrol trooper began pursuit of an unidentified person driving a 1995 white Mercury Villager, after the driver sped off when the trooper attempted a traffic stop.
The driver traveled through Mandan at a "high rate of speed"for two minutes, before crashing to a stop after striking a fire hydrant and a residential deck on Third Avenue SE in Mandan. The suspect fled from the scene on foot and has not yet been identified, according to reports.
Several units from the Mandan Police Department and the patrol arrived after the crash and attempted to track the suspect, but eventually lost the footprints, said patrol Sgt. Jody Skogen.
The time of the crash was 1:26 a.m. Thursday.
The patrol contacted the Bismarck Police Department, who in turn contacted the owner of the van, a 47-year-old Bismarck woman.
The woman then filed a report, saying the vehicle was most likely stolen sometime after 5:30 p.m Wednesday.
Police said the woman did not know who took her vehicle.
