The North Dakota School for the Blind opened in Bathgate in 1908, and in 1961 moved to Grand Forks. This year, the school will celebrate 100 years.
Several events are occurring during 2008, one of which is a Celebration of the Life of Helen Keller (June 27, 1880-June 1, 1968).
This event is open to the public and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Pioneer Room, state Capitol, Bismarck. A program will be held at 11 a.m. and there will be displays.
Carmen Grove Suminski, superintendent of the school, has compiled a book titled "Recollections of 100 Years of Excellence 1908-2008," which is available to sale for $20.
