More than a month after Anita Knutson was found dead in her Minot apartment, police continue following up on leads to try and find the person responsible for the young woman's death.
Knutson, 18, was found dead on June 4. Preliminary autopsy results show that the Minot State University student was stabbed twice in the chest. A knife was recovered at the scene of the homicide, police said.
Minot Police Lt. Dan Strandberg said detectives continue to talk to people and follow up on any tip they are given in the young woman's death.
"It seems like we're constantly interviewing people," he said.
Strandberg said the case has not been like any other homicide case he has worked - usually, police have a prime suspect early in an investigation.
"We have some suspects, but not one particular individual we can focus on," he said.
Detectives currently are waiting for evidence and results of tests to come back from the state crime lab in Bismarck, Strandberg said.
"We're going to have to have some patience in this one," he said.
Alice Westby, a teacher at Velva High School where Knutson graduated in 2006, said the shock of Knutson's death seems to have worn off somewhat in the communities of Velva and Butte, where Knutson's family lives. However, people who knew the petite, happy-go-lucky girl want answers.
"We're still looking for closure," Westby said.
