Health classes planned

A series of health classes is intended to educate the public. The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences offers Medical School for the Public. This year, the topic is women's health.

Class sessions run from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 20-April 24. The cost is $30 per person, and enrollment is limited. For the first evening only, participants are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. to complete the registration process.

There are class sites in Bismarck, Minot, Fargo and Grand Forks. One site will host a live class, with the other sites participating by videoconferencing.

"Our sessions will look at various aspects of women's health, including issues that challenge women today," said Dr. Elizabeth Burns, professor of family and community medicine, who is coordinating this year's program.

UND medical school faculty members will teach all sessions. The class line-up is menopause and hormone therapy March 20, originating from Grand Forks; fibromyalgia/human papilloma vrus and the new vaccine March 27, originating from Grand Forks and Bismarck; infertility and pregnancy April 3, originating from Fargo and Grand Forks; eating disorders and obesity-depression and anxiety April 10, originating from Fargo; incontinence April 17, originating from Grand Forks and Bismarck; and cancer screening and preventive pactices April 24, originating from Minot
