A Bismarck man was arrested after someone found a child he was caring for outside wearing only a diaper.

Anthony Gillette, 33, was charged Tuesday with Class Cfelony abuse or neglect of a child.

South Central District Judge David Reich set bond for Gillette at $3,000 cash or surety.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Dwight Offerman said police were dispatched to northeast Bismarck at 12:24 p.m. Monday for a report of a toddler outside wearing nothing but a diaper.

It was 18 degrees outside at the time, Offerman said.

He said officers turned the 2-year-old boy over to social services after arresting Gillette, the boy's uncle.

Gillette told police the child, who is staying with him, got out of his apartment when he was in the bathroom, Offerman said.

Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Pam Nesvig said social services is involved in the situation, but she was uncertain of the whereabouts of the child or Gillette's three children.

Reich did not restrict Gillette's contact with the children.

Gillette also was arrested on a warrant out of Bismarck Municipal Court for theft of property.

According to court documents, he has not made an appearance in that case yet.
