Mandan police continue to investigate an assault at a Mandan hotel.
A 33-year-old Mandan woman, who was working as a maid at a Mandan hotel, reported May 28 she was attacked by a man inside a women's bathroom. The incident occurred between 8 and 8:30 a.m.
The woman reported she went into a bathroom stall in a public women's bathroom, then came out and was confronted immediately by a man who spun her around, put his hand over her mouth, choked her with his arm and pushed her to the ground.
Police said she was knocked unconscious. They believe she was sexually assaulted but are awaiting lab results to determine what happened, Sgt. Jay Grueble said. The woman regained consciousness as the man was leaving the bathroom, and she was admitted to a hospital with injuries to her neck.
Grueble said detectives are following up on leads in the case. Police have not released the name of the hotel where the incident occurred, as they are concerned the information could impede the investigation.
The suspect is described as a man, 30 to 40 years old, between 5-feet-10-inches tall and 6-feet tall with a medium build. The man had tan skin and dark brown hair cut short or possibly "buzz cut." He was wearing a dark blue or black T-shirt and blue jeans and possibly had a tattoo on his left upper arm.
Anyone with information about the incident should call the Mandan Police Department at 667-3455 or Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477).
