Billings County - An application by the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service to create a National Historic District on 18 sections of Billings County land related to the Theodore Roosevelt Elkhorn Ranch Site and Elkhorn Ranchlands (formerly Eberts ranch) will be heard at 10 a.m. Friday at the Heritage Center in Bismarck. The application will be reviewed by the North Dakota State Historic Preservation Review Board.

Linton - Linton residents will vote from 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday whether to switch to South Central Regional Water. The special election will allow the project to access 75 percent federal stimulus funds, an option that expires as a use-it-or-lose-it source this fall. Hazelton will hold a special election on joining the water district on Sept. 28 and Hague's election date is yet to be announced.

Sioux County - A new law on Standing Rock Sioux Reservation requires all children ages zero through 17 to be in a car seat, booster seat or seat belts at all times. The primary child restraint law will be enforced and violators will be ticketed and fined.
