Sister Susan Lardy, of Annunciation Monastery in Bismarck, was transferred over the weekend to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to be treated for injuries suffered in a car accident Nov. 19.

Lardy, 68, and Sister Mariah Dietz, 62, were traveling on U.S. Highway 83 south of Minot when their vehicle slid on frost and rolled several times. Both women were wearing seat belts.

Jill Ackerman, the monastery's director of communications, said Lardy had been in critical condition at Trinity Hospital in Minot from the time of the accident until she was transferred to Mayo Clinic.

"We're really happy to report she's alert and doing really well," Ackerman said. "She's breathing on her own and speaking."

Ackerman said the monastery was pleased with the care Lardy received at Trinity Hospital, but due to multiple fractures to her right arm, she needed to be taken to Mayo Clinic.

"She's recovering well," Ackerman said. "We're pleased with the progress she's made."

Ackerman said everyone at the monastery is grateful for the prayers the community have extended during Lardy's hospitalization.

"We really believe the prayers have helped her through all this," Ackerman said. "She's maintained a very positive attitude through the whole thing."

Dietz was treated at Trinity Hospital and released the day after the accident.
