North Dakotans wanting an inexpensive vacation should stay in the state.

AAA's annual vacation costs survey found two adults would spend $159 a day in North Dakota for food and lodging. Nebraska was a dollar higher, at $160.

The auto club said the recommended budget for two adults vacationing in North American is $244.

Hawaii remained the state with the highest daily cost for food and lodging, at $793 a day.

AAA has been tracking vacations costs since 1950, when the average daily cost of meals and lodgings for a family of four was $13.
