The insurance commissioner race wasn't the only tight one from Tuesday night. Four legislative races had slim margins, with one resulting in a mandatory recount.
The mandatory recount is in District 12 with Republican incumbent Dave Nething of Jamestown leading Democrat John Grabinger by 10 votes.
For the three districts with demand-only recounts, the candidates have three days after the Nov. 18 state canvassing board meeting to request one.
For the District 10 House race, Republican incumbent Chuck Damschen of Hampden is leading Democrat Kathy Stremick by 20 votes.
In District 6, Republican incumbent Glen Froseth of Kenmare is leading Democrat Christine Peterson by 71 votes.
In District 22 House race, Republican incumbent Vonnie Pietsch is leading Democrat Keith Gohdes by 89 votes.
Insurance commissioner Adam Hamm defeated his Democratic opponent Jasper Schneider on Wednesday by 1,781 votes.
