BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Rep. Earl
Pomeroy, D-N.D., says he cannot support the climate change bill in
Congress. The House is expected to vote on it by the end of the
week. It includes a so-called "cap-and-trade" provision aimed at
limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
Pomeroy says changes made in the bill to benefit farmers are not
enough to keep him from voting no. He says the bill would hurt
rural cooperatives that get power from coal, and says its emission
targets are unrealistic because the technology has not yet been
invented to meet hem.
Pomeroy says he would like to see more research into clean coal and
less restrictive timelines for reducing power plant
emissions.
