MUNICH, N.D. (AP) - Plans for a canola crushing plant here are moving ahead, says a representative of an engineering firm working on a feasibility study.

Mark Luther, of Bismarck-based Kadrmas Lee & Jackson Inc., said Cavalier County is the country's top canola-producing county.

"One of the things we found in talking to a lot of people is that the oil content is actually a little bit higher in canola grown right in that area - Cavalier County and then on up into Canada too, has a little bit higher oil content than the average in the state," Luther said. "Every percentage point really makes quite a difference in extraction and in profits."

Organizers of Northern Prairie Envirofuels plant are using a $54,000 grant from the state Agricultural Products Utilization Commission to complete a business plan. Luther said they hope to have it finished by the end of May to present to potential investors.

Members of the Northern Prairie EnviroFuels LLC board represent the Cando, Crary, Langdon, Munich, Park River, Rolla and Sarles areas.
