Police have identified a woman who died Thursday after her Chevrolet Avalanche crashed through a Bismarck restaurant as Holly Mathern-Comeau.
Sgt. Dwight Offerman said the accident is not being classified as a fatal wreck.
"A medical condition probably contributed to the crash," he said.
Police have not been told what caused the death of Mathern-Comeau, 47, of Solen. Offerman said a doctor indicated he would sign a death certificate, but police have not been informed of the cause of death.
It is not believed that the crash caused Mathern-Comeau's death, he said. She was pronounced dead at a Bismarck hospital after being transported by ambulance from the crash scene.
Police said Mathern-Comeau was driving eastbound on Bismarck Expressway when she turned off onto the frontage road near DiDonna's Italian Restaurant, 505 E. Bismarck Expressway. For an unknown reason, she then drove over a curb and into the restaurant. Her Chevrolet Avalanche stopped when it was about halfway in the building.
The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. - about 15 minutes before the restaurant opened for the day.
Offerman said Mathern-Comeau was unconscious when the owner of the restaurant, Gregorio DiDonna, called 911.
Damage to the restaurant was estimated at $80,000 to $100,000.
