Charges for driving under the influence were filed against the driver in a fatal accident near Center early Saturday morning, according to a release by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Passengers Shawn R. Johnson of Hazen and Travis L. Hilfer of Mandan died at the scene.
The driver was Cody B. Bargmann, 23, of Hannover. Bargmann was driving a 2005 GMCK2500 pickup. The accident happened when Bargmann was unable to make a curve as he was driving northbound on 36th Avenue SW northeast of Center. The pickup went off the road and rolled in a field. None of the occupants wore seatbelts and they were ejected from the pickup.
Bargmann and the surviving passengers were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center for treatment. The other passengers were Lee Scheid, 24, of Hazen; Kayla Heilman, 16, of Center and Ashley Heilman, 19, of Center.
Funeral services for Johnson are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Beach. Arrangements are by Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach.
Funeral arrangements for Hilfer are by Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan; services are pending.
