A Bismarck man could face 45 years and 30 days in prison and fines of $36,000 for allegedly attacking his ex-wife.

Dale Allen Gress, 43, was charged Friday with attempted murder, burglary, aggravated assault-domestic violence, two counts of violation of a domestic violence protection order and simple assault, according to court documents.

Gress is being held on $250,000 cash bond, the documents said.

He was arrested last week for breaking into his 46-year-old ex-wife's mobile home and allegedly assaulting her, her 20-year-old son and her 68-year-old male roommate with a tire bat.

A tire bat is 2 feet or 21/2 feet long and looks like a small baseball bat. Truck drivers use tire bats to check the tires on their trucks.Gress allegedly threatened to kill his ex-wife. The woman already had a domestic violence protection order against him.

Gress was charged with one count of violation of domestic violence protection order for coming within 100 feet of his ex-wife at a truck stop and one count for entering her home, according to court documents.

Officers said all three victims had head and torso injuries, but only the woman's son was taken to the hospital by ambulance, for his head injury. The woman said she might have a broken arm but refused medical attention.
