Connie Walch of Hettinger is one of those angels who flies under the radar.

After her mother, a former resident at Western Horizon Care Center passed away, she continues to visit on a daily basis, taking Forrest Jennings downtown to the local cafe for coffee with his buddies.

Jennings, a retired construction worker, was able to regain his connection with his friends and with his community.

Walch also cares for other residents at the care center, helping them with errands, sharing in their hobbies, taking them out for lunch and just being there for them to talk with.

For many people, especially seniors, it's the little things that mean a lot.

Taking time to help those around you, and in your community, makes your little corner of the world a better place in which to live, said Jennings' son, Jon, who nominated Walch.

"Such a selfless act of kindness certainly deserves some recognition," he said.

"In today's gimme society, it is refreshing to see someone give of their own time to help one of our senior citizens."
