Every year, "Christmas in April" comes not as a blizzard, but as a blitz.
Volunteers, skilled and unskilled, will rehabilitate homes for low-income, disabled or elderly people in the community on Saturday as part of the annual one-day "Christmas in April" volunteer effort. Those eligible for help are unable to do home repairs because of income or physical limitations.
Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. at Bismarck's Capital Credit Union, 204 W. Thayer Ave., or Mandan's Capital Credit Union at 600 E. Main St. The day ends at 5 p.m. with a picnic and program for all homeowners and volunteers at the Doublewood Inn, I-94 and Exit 159, Bismarck. Special awards will be presented to selected volunteers.
Locations for the day in Bismarck will be at 816 N. 15th St. and 634 Garden Drive in southwest Bismarck. In Mandan, locations are 609 Third St. S.W., 504 First St. S.E., 712 Third St. S.W., and 211 Third Ave. N.E.
Two back-up projects also have been selected at 508 Eighth Ave. S.W., Mandan, and at LCCW Self-Help Project in Lincoln.
