A Mandan man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly strangling his girlfriend to unconsciousness.
Cole Lee Pfaff, 18, also was charged Friday with reckless endangerment and felonious restraint, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
All three charges are Class C felonies, each punishable by up to five years in prison and fines of up to $5,000.
South Central District Judge David Reich set bond for Pfaff at $10,000 cash on Monday at the Morton County Courthouse, said Morton County State's Attorney Allen Koppy.
Reich ordered that Pfaff have no contact with the 19-year-old woman, who is the alleged victim in the case, Koppy said.
Mandan Police Deputy Chief Dennis Bullinger said the Emmons County Sheriff's Department called the Mandan Police Department to report an assault that occurred on Nov. 13 in Mandan.
Bullinger said the 19-year-old woman's mother lives in Emmons County, and her mother called the sheriff's department to report her daughter was assaulted.
According to an affidavit from Mandan Police Detective Beth Tebelius, the woman said she lived with Pfaff and has a daughter with him.
She said she tried to break up with Pfaff on the night of Nov. 13, and he became angry, the affidavit said.
She said he choked her until she lost consciousness, the affidavit said. It said the woman reported that after she regained consciousness, Pfaff later headbutted her.
The woman tried to leave and go to her mother's house during the night, but Pfaff wouldn't let her take their daughter, the affidavit said.
After the sun came up on Nov. 14, the woman got her daughter and her things and left, the affidavit said.
Bismarck Police Lt. Dan Donlin said Pfaff was arrested in Bismarck on the warrant over the weekend.
