Despite two strong write-in campaigns, the Lincoln City Council remains basically the same, with only one council seat changing hands in Tuesday's election.

Declared candidate and challenger Bob Johnston had the second-highest number of votes, 154, in the race for three three-year council seats. Peter Hoerner led the way with 159 votes, and Kathleen Schneibel had 99. Incumbent Ricky Fischer had 91, and Jon Wagner had 77 write-in votes.

Several others received write-in votes. Wagner also had 38 write-in votes for mayor and seven for the one-year term.

The three incumbents running for one-year terms were returned to the council. Karen Daly received 110 votes, Helen Magilke 110 and Mary Ann Filibek 94. Joe Albrecht, who chaired one of the two recall committees, received 87 write-ins, while 16 others received at least one write-in.

Mayor Glenn Christmann, who ran unopposed, received 168 votes. John Wagner received 38 write-ins, and eight other names received write-ins.

Auditor Kim Kramer estimates Lincoln has about 2,000 eligible voters, and 231 cast ballots in the election.

The council will hold its next meeting on Sept. 22 to consider the 2006 budget.
