Bowman County - A farm and ranch resource night will start at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kalina Dam five miles southwest of Bowman. Local farm and land assistance agencies will hold workshops on soil health, water quality, windbreak and shelter break rejuvenation, grass seeding and sprayer calibrations. A meal will be served. Killdeer - A program on cooking for one or two people will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Masonic Lodge in Killdeer. The program will teach healthy eating and present ideas on how to create an enjoyable meal atmosphere. Preregistration is required by calling the Dunn County Extension office at 764-5593.

Linton - The Emmons County Wildlife Club has changed its meeting date to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Green Lantern in Linton. The club will discuss the upcoming pheasant contest, and all members are asked to attend.

Elgin - The Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin invites everyone to its annual community appreciation picnic starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Elgin Community Center. The meal will include roast beef, pork and turkey, and trimmings and dessert. The care center's new administrator, Doug Wamack, will be there to meet the community residents. Also, the 36th annual Oktoberfest will be held Friday through Sunday in New Leipzig, with beer gardens, ethnic food and dancing. The Oktoberfest parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Regent - A walk along the Enchanted Highway will be held Sept. 24, starting at the Tin Family display ending at the Crocus Inn in Regent, where refreshments will be served. The walk is sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association to raise awareness and money to support services to families in western North Dakota. Pettibone - Our Savior Lutheran Church of Pettibone will take drop offs of clothing, furniture, house wares and bedding at 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at the church. The items will be collected by the Fargo-Moorhead Dakota Boys Ranch Thrift Stores, where proceeds go toward troubled youth.

Beulah - The Beulah Chamber of Commerce will serve a free appreciation lunch to farmers and ranchers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Farm Service Agency parking lot in Beulah. The chamber will serve burgers, brats, chips and drinks. Also, the Knife River Chorale is celebrating its 50th Christmas performance this year, and anyone who sang with the chorale in the past is invited to participate for the anniversary. Rehearsal begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in Hazen High School band room.

The centennial committee is soliciting recipes for a commemorative cookbook.

Slope County - Slope County, unlike other counties, will continue its ban on open burning until further notice. The ban includes any campfires, garbage pits, and brush and field burns. Recreational vehicle travel is restricted to roads that are growth-free between wheel tracks.
