The Mandan City Commission agreed to prioritize two of its urban road application projects at its Tuesday meeting. Funding will be requested from the North Dakota Department of Transportation by early December.
Urban road funding is being sought for Sunset Drive between Mandan High School and 15th Street. Mandan City Administrator Jim Neubauer said the 80 percent federal, 20 percent city match would apply to the street surface only.
Needed utility repair costs also are being gauged, but how that would be paid for is up to the city. "We've had a few water breaks there," Neubauer said. He said many of the utilities there are original infrastructure.
The earliest the work could start is 2010. Neubauer said there was possibly $1 million available in this round of funding.
He cited Mandan's Third Street Southwest between 10th Avenue and Second Avenue as the other project as a top urban project being sought for NDDOT funds.
He expects work would not begin there until 2012.
The commission also agreed to allow Neubauer to request funding for a series of stimulus urban projects. This funding goes to projects that qualify as urban, involve only surface work and can be done quickly.
Identified under this status were:
n Sunset Drive Northwest to Collins Avenue Northwest on the Old Red Trail.
n Mandan Avenue Northeast, extending from the Interstate Exchange to the Old Red Trail Northeast.
n Main Street, extending from 10th Avenue Northwest to Twin City Drive.
n 10th Avenue Southwest from Main Street to the Heart River Bridge.
n Longspur Drive Southeast from Third Street Southeast to Red Wing Drive Southeast.
Neubauer said there are no timelines set on the stimulus funding projects. Receipt of funding hinges on how much federal DOT funding the state receives and what types of applications it receives from other cities.
