Four Bismarck businesses sold tobacco to minors during a compliance check Tuesday night.
Sgt. Dwight Offerman said three 15-year-olds accompanied police to all 41 retail tobacco outlets in Bismarck from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Employees at four businesses sold tobacco to minors, he said.
At B & J Tesoro, 406 N. Sixth St., an employee checked a teen's identification, sold the tobacco product, then realized the mistake and tried to find the teen outside, Offerman said.
Employees at Simonson's, 1309 E. Interstate Ave., and Kum &Go, 207 E. Rosser Ave., sold to teens without checking identification, Offerman said. He said a police report did not indicate whether an employee at Dan's Supermarket, 3101 N. 11th St., checked identification before selling to a minor.
The employees who sold to minors at Dan's and Simonson's were juveniles; the employees at B & J Tesoro and Kum& Go were adults, he said.
Reports on the compliance checks will be sent to the city attorney's office, Offerman said.
