Travis Mittleider, 24, of Bismarck, who had pleaded guilty for burglarizing John's Machine Shop in Mandan and three Bismarck businesses, was sentenced for the Mandan case Thursday, getting a two-year sentence, suspended for three years, from South Central District Judge Gail Hagerty.

Mittleider, who will be on supervised probation during the three years, was ordered to pay $506.91 restitution, and pay court fines and fees, and successfully perform 80 hours of community service.

A computer monitor, some "unique coins," several tools and about $55 in cash were stolen from John's Machine Shop - and an office window and door were damaged, said Mandan Police Detective Jon Vanderhoef in a past interview.

Mittleider will be sentenced Wednesday for the February burglaries in Bismarck of Penny's Muffler and Exhaust, 1923 E. Sweet Ave; Bismarck Auto and Dent Repair, 3332 Franklin Ave.; and T&M Electric, 1303 Frontier Drive.

Morton County State's Attorney Alan Koppy recommended that Mittleider receive a three-year sentence, with 18 months suspended.

Mittleider's attorney, Marv Hager, asked that, since this was Mittleider's first felony and he was employed in a good-paying construction job, he be given a deferred sentence - meaning if he didn't commit any crimes within a certain time period, the offense would be wiped from his record.

Hagerty said she was concerned about his past record of traffic offenses, which showed a propensity for not following rules, and imposed the two years, suspended for three.

Mittleider's co-conspirator in the burglaries, Donovan Patterson, 20, of Bismarck, was sentenced in June for the Bismarck burglaries and other charges, receiving a three-year sentence from South Central District Judge Bruce Haskell for the nine Class C felonies: three counts of burglary; three counts of theft of property; two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary; and one count of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.
