AMandan woman has been charged with allegedly impersonating a public servant.
Laurie Ann Rothschiller, 39, was charged with impersonating a public servant, a Class Bmisdemeanor, on Friday. She has been summoned to make a court appearance on the charge at 10 a.m. March 6 at the Morton County Courthouse.
A complaint filed Friday alleges Rothschiller "impersonated a crime lab employee assisting in a sexual assault investigation."
According to an affidavit from Mandan Police Detective Jon Vanderhoef, people at five businesses in northwest Mandan reported having a blond woman come in after 5 p.m. Jan. 16, claiming to be a crime lab employee. She told people she was looking for a tall, thin, white male with a ponytail, who she said was a suspect in a sexual assault, the affidavit said.
A witness at one business said the woman left in a wine-colored S-10 Blazer, the affidavit said. Vanderhoef found several similar vehicles in the area, one of which belonged to Rothschiller, the affidavit said. Vanderhoef wrote that he knew Rothschiller from past incidents and knew she matched the description.
The affidavit said Vanderhoef put together a photo lineup containing Rothschiller's photo, and her photo was picked by witnesses at all of the businesses.
Mandan police also are investigating a case of officer impersonation in which two men came to a woman's door claiming to be officers. One of the men said he was a detective and was dressed in black, and the other was wearing a dark-colored uniform. The men claimed to be looking for a rapist but also asked the woman about her daily habits.
No one has been charged in that case.
Anyone with information about people impersonating police officers in Mandan should contact Vanderhoef at the Mandan Police Department, 667-3455.
