The Salvation Army Corps is planning two events to mark 110 years in Bismarck-Mandan.
Two luncheons are planned the week of May 15-21 to highlight the work of the Salvation Army in the community, said Mike Bommarito, community relations development director for the Salvation Army.
A public luncheon with a speaker is planned for senior citizens at 11:30 a.m. May 15 at the Salvation Army Corps headquarters at 601 S. Washington St. in Bismarck. Music will be provided by the Happiness Four Ministry.
On May 18, another public luncheon with the theme, "Change a Life," is planned from 12 to 12:50 p.m. at the Radisson Inn Ballroom, 605 E. Broadway Ave., Bismarck. This is a fundraising luncheon; freewill contributions, either pledges or gifts, will be accepted. The luncheon will include a video and testimony to the work of the Salvation Army, including local programs such as Sal's Place after school and summer programs for children.
The Salvation Army supports other community needs through its social services office, such as the food pantry and emergency lodging, he said. Registrations are now being taken for children's summer programs.
Bommarito expects that the local corps will plan special activities for the 110th anniversary during the Christmas bell ringing season as well.
Those planning to attend the May 18 luncheon at the Radisson are asked to RSVP by May 15 by calling 223-1889.
