FARGO (AP) - A family here will soon realize their dream of a new home.
In about three months, the Adde family will move to a new house in West Fargo being built by volunteers.
More than 60 volunteers from West Fargo's Faith Lutheran Church raised the building's exterior walls Saturday.
The project is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Faith Lutheran Church of West Fargo is heading construction, but volunteers from other local churches will help.
"We are so happy," said Fowzia Adde, a Somali immigrant. "We need it so bad."
Adde's five children were equally enthused.
"It's amazing," said 5-year-old Nureini Adde.
Seven-year-old Munira Adde said she plans to paint her bedroom pink.
Building a home for a family in need produces a sense of accomplishment, said Otto Olsgaard, an 82-year-old volunteer.
Though work just began Thursday, the house will be framed by Wednesday, said Alice Christianson, a Faith Lutheran member and congregational champion for Thrivent.
Christianson took more than a week off from work to oversee the project.
"It's a good way to vacation," she said. "The best way."
This is the second local home Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent have collaborated on this year. Next year, the groups plan to build three homes.
