The Bismarck Far West Rotary Club is organizing "Frames for 'Fun'ds," a charity bowling tournament and silent auction at 1 p.m. Jan. 10 at Midway Lanes in Mandan.

The annual event is organized by the club, and includes an afternoon of bowling and an opportunity to bid on silent auction items. Proceeds will benefit three local causes - the God's Child Project, Gateway to Science Center and New Generations Park.

Wally Keller, chairman of the event, said that this is the Far West Rotary's largest fundraising event, having generated more than $40,000 to help local charities in the past six years.

Funds from the event have helped cover shipping costs for the God's Child Project's annual shipping container, tens of thousands of pounds of donated clothing, medical supplies, and school supplies to help children and families in Guatemala.

Gateway to Science depends on contributions such as this to operate its exhibits gallery and keep admission prices affordable for all children to explore science.

New Generations Park is sponsored by the Bismarck Farwest Rotary Club, which has donated $20,000 to build a handicap-accessible playground. The club will continue to help out with similar projects throughout the life of the park.

This year, silent auction highlights include adult and junior golf passes to Riverwood and Tom O'Leary Golf Courses, an eight-hour rental of a skid steer loader from Butler Machinery, a John Deere cast iron pedal tractor, a day of sailing on Lake Sakakawea, and gift certificates to restaurants, gas stations, hotels and other Bismarck-Mandan businesses.

The tournament will be limited to 52 teams of four players. Registration fee is $125, and all teams are asked to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Emergency Food Pantry. Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. at Midway Lanes, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. To register a team or for more information, contact Nancy Christenson at 530-1420.
