10:03 a.m. - MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Don Tallman arranged for a special banner at the Family Motor Coach Association rally here, and it brought him the answer he'd been hoping for.

A small plane pulling a banner reading, "Carolyn, will you marry me? Don," soared over the North Dakota State Fairgrounds on Monday, where Carolyn Bearden, of Arcadia, Fla., and Tallman, of Sacramento, Calif., were attending the motor coach gathering.

It was fitting to propose there, Tallman said, because the two had met at a national Family Motor Coach Association rally in Buffalo, N.Y., about two years ago, courtesy of friends of his who happened to be in the parking crew.

"Once they parked her, two of the people came over, 'cause they were looking out for me, and they said, 'You won't believe the lady we just parked! You gotta meet her,"' Tallman recalled.

He and Bearden have been good friends since then, and have been touring the country and Tallman's home state of Iowa together.

The two had never really discussed marriage, Bearden said.

"We've just been enjoying every day we've had together. It's just been fun," Bearden said.

Tallman contacted Minot pilot Fred Andersen three months ago about creating a very special banner.

"When I got to town, I called him again and he had the banner all made up," said Tallman.

Early Monday afternoon, friends of Tallman and Bearden gathered around the them on the southwest side of Minot's All Seasons Arena.

"I kept trying to figure out, 'What does he want me out here for?"' Bearden said.

Her friends actually had been given instructions by Tallman.

"He planned it really very well. All of our friends were around. They were all gathering around me," said Bearden.

When they heard the sound of Andersen's airplane, the friends moved behind Bearden to reveal the banner message.

She answered "yes," to cheers and hoorays.
