Hettinger - Hettinger will hold its Street Fest '08 Friday, with a citywide rummage sale, a Chamber of Commerce donation sale on Main, burgers and brats downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a morning petting zoo in Running's parking lot, a three-on-three hoop festival downtown, and a children's fair and games from 1 to 3 p.m. on Main Street. Other organizations will sell bottled water, caramel rolls and doughnuts.

BILLINGS

Medora - The new Badlands Ministries camp will be celebrated starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the new location south of Medora. The old camp will be decommissioned and a parade of vehicles will follow the Old Cross to its new location at the new camp. A ribbon cutting and blessing will take place in the Bethlehem Dining Hall and a noon lunch will be served. Also, History Alive! programs will begin with the appearance of Yellowstone Vic Smith at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site in Medora. Smith was a buffalo hunter, trapper, dispatch rider, and scout who worked as a hunting guide for the Marquis de Mores in the 1880s. He's portrayed by Arch Ellwein, of Williston.

BOWMAN

Bowman - A public open house will be held at 4:30 p.m. June 4 at the Bowman City Hall and at 4:30 p.m. June 5 at the Hettinger County Courthouse in Mott to explain the Bison Pipeline project, which will extend from the Powder River Basin near Dead Horse, Wyo., to the Northern Border Pipeline near Glen Ullin. Strasburg - Larry "Gootsie" Schwab, a man who played the old-time music at weddings and anniversaries throughout the area will be entertained from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Sheila's Cafe in Strasburg on the occasion of his 80th birthday. His family invites everyone, especially his "polka friends" to attend. Also, Linton American Legion Post will hold graveside Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. at the Linton, St. Anthony and Temvik cemeteries and will host a community supper, starting with a social at 5 tonight at the Linton Community Center.

Beach - St. John the Baptist church will hold a parish centennial June 21 and 22 at the church in Beach. Events June 21 include a 4 p.m. Mass with Bishop Paul Zipfel, followed by dinner at 5 p.m. Masses will be held at 8 a.m. June 22 at Beach and Golva, followed by a pancake breakfast served in the church basement until noon. Also, Trinity Lutheran Church of Sentinel Butte will celebrate its centennial with service at 11:15 a.m. June 29, followed by an invitational dinner. A program will be held at 2 p.m. at the community hall for fellowship and visiting.

GRANT

New Leipzig - A benefit for Larry and Shirley Schafer, who lost buildings and equipment in a grass fire March 29, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Community Center in New Leipzig. Proceeds from the meal and dessert will go toward replacing fire losses. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

HETTINGER

Hettinger County -Residents of Hettinger County will be asked to dedicate 2 mills toward senior services in Hettinger County, for senior centers in Mott, New England and Regent. The vote on the June 10 primary ballot will increase senior funds from $13,000 to about $20,000 for health, busing and meal services.

Napoleon - It's nearing the last chance to buy a raffle ticket for a Harley Davidson motorcycle, with tickets available at Stock Growers Bank or Ken's Shopping Center in Napoleon. The Harley drawing will be held June 20 during the 125th anniversary street dance in Napoleon.

Ashley - Pillows can look like new after a special pillow cleaning from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4 at the Ashley Public Library. No appointment is needed and proceeds from the cleaning will go toward the Ashley Women's Club. Feather pillows, beds and foam and Dracon can all be renovated.

Watford City - An organizational meeting for adult co-ed sand volleyball league will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Watford City Children's Park. League play will be held at 5:30 p.m. Mondays for 10 weeks and cost is $90 per team. Players must be 18 and high school graduates. Also, the public is invited to the Best of the Badlands Sheepdog Trails through Wednesday at the Konrad and Sharon Norstog ranch three miles south of Watford City on Highway 85. The entrance is between mile markers 139 and 140 west.

Washburn - A child care session for men only, called "Daddy's Daycare," will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. June 8 at the Washburn Ambulance Building on Main Street in Washburn. Cost is $25 and participants will learn infant and child CPR, basic first aid, nutrition ideas and car seat inspection.

Harmony Lake - The second annual Cops and Kids Fishing Derby will be held starting at 8 a.m. June 7 at Harmony Lake, six miles north of Hazen on County 27. The Mercer County Peace Officers Association is sponsoring the event and is looking for donations of prizes, or money to help with the event. Lunch will be provided for participants.

MORTON

Hebron - A short film "Night of Fury," produced by FEMA in the wake of the Northwood tornado that killed one man and destroyed much of the small town, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Mayer Theater in Hebron. The Hebron Fire Department hopes people will attend and stay afterward for life-saving information from emergency managers and John Paul Martin, National Weather Service meteorologist.

Parshall - The American Legion Post will hold a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. today at the American Legion Hall. Guest speaker will be 1st Lt. Brian Lane, assistant flight commander and missile combat commander with the 741st Missile Squadron in Minot. A cemetery salute will be followed by a meal at the hall.

Standing Rock Sioux Reservation - The Standing Rock tribal council appropriated $25,000 for a June special election that will ask members to decide whether to remove the word "Sioux" from tribal government and political subdivisions and become Standing Rock "Oyate," the Lakota word for "people," and also whether the change the blood measurement of Oceti Sakowin toward tribal membership.

Harvey - The Sheyenne River Saddle Club Rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday at the rodeo grounds at Harvey. Rodeo events are at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7 p.m. Saturday. A party in the dirt will be held Saturday and beer gardens will be open. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
