DUNN

New Hradec - Dunn County residents and others are invited to waltz on out to the New Hradec Catholic Workman Hall for dancing April 28. Ernie and Judy Hecker Variety Sound will play waltzes and polkas until midnight. The evening will begin at 6 with a presentation by the Dunn County Historical Museum on ongoing work to preserve the history of Dunn County. Cost is $15 per couple. A bar will be open, but no food will be served.

Strasburg - The 2007 Emmons County Working Women's banquet will be held starting with a 6 p.m. social hour April 25 at the Blue Room in Strasburg. The meal will be beef barbecue, taco salad and brownies, and include entertainment by Francine Kosiak. Tickets are $10, available at Emmons County businesses.

Beach - A special election will be held May 2 to fill a vacant position on the Beach City Council. Candidates are Jeannie Larson, Lori Twardoski, Gary Ross and Wade Szudera. Polling will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the ambulance hall. Absentee ballots are available at city hall.

Elgin - The Grant County Dollars for Scholars carnival will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Elgin High School gym. The carnival will include food, a cake walk, games and bingo for cash prizes.

Mott - A performance by Cotton Wood, a North Dakota bluegrass band, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Playhouse Theater in Mott. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12.50 at the door. The concert also will feature a performance by Preston Schmidt.

Steele - The Kidder County Health Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the community center in Steele. The fair will offer free screening for memory, stroke, blood pressure, balance, glucose and more. A cholesterol test is $15. Anyone who wants transportation to the fair can call 426-7181.

Napoleon - The Napoleon Golden Age Club will sell quilts at auction at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Golden Age Hall. Residents are asked to support the club by buying a quilt made by their parents or grandparents.

Wishek - A public hearing will be held at 8 p.m. May 7 at the Wishek City Hall on an application by the Wishek Home for the Aged to rezone a tract of land from industrial to residential. A copy of the application can be viewed at the Wishek City Hall.

Watford City - The State Game and Fish Department will hold its District 1 advisory board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Club in Watford City. Underwood - The Underwood Civic Club will hold its annual appreciation supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 2 at the Underwood City Hall. Businesses will have display tables and some reports on local projects will be made.

New Salem - The New Salem High School drama department will present a western musical comedy "Shakespeare Comes to Calamity Creek," at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the New Salem City Auditorium. Hebron - The freshman FCS I class at Hebron will hold a preschool for local children ages 3 through 5 from 11:25 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays April 24 through May 10. Children will be involved in several activities, including story reading, crafts and playtime. The school is free. To register, call Kathy Nordgren at the school.

STARK - An organization meeting for a Belfield strategic plan will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Hall in Belfield. Anyone who would like to be part of a steering committee is welcome to attend. The committee will meet regularly for a year to evaluate the community's needs and develop a five- to 10-year plan.
