Police are searching for a Bismarck man in connection with a possible assault.

Sgt. Dwight Offerman of the Bismarck Police Department said the incident allegedly occurred Tuesday night, but was not reported to police until Wednesday, when his department was contacted by a social service agency.

Offerman said the man, who does not live at the northwest Bismarck residence, dropped off groceries at the home where a woman lives with their two children.

According to the report, the man was apparently intoxicated and became verbally abusive toward the woman. When she tried to phone for help, he allegedly tore the phone from the wall and struck her on the head with it.

The woman did not seek medical attention, Offerman said.
