The downtown Bismarck wrap shop, Kathleen's, closed its doors Tuesday after selling its property to another local restaurant owner the day before.

Aaron Bank, owner of Mr. Delicious, bought the building at 307 N. Third St. and will be moving his business there from its location at 118 Fourth St. He hopes to be open in the new location by July 7, and expand the business into serving dinner and beer and wine.

Mr. Delicious specializes in cheesecake and recently added a lunch menu.

Bank and the Heiser family, owners of Katheen's, have been in negotiations for a sale since April.

Tim Heiser said the negotiations began when he decided he wanted to sell the business and put out feelers into the local restaurant community to see if anybody was interested in buying. Heiser said business at Kathleen's was good "and getting better every year, including this year."

But after running the business for five years, he said he wanted to move on to other opportunities, including an Internet collectible business he's been running on the side.

"We made a profit and weren't forced to sell," he said. "It was a choice."

Heiser co-owns the business with his father, Karlis Heiser. The family moved here from Billings, Mont., in 2003 to open the business.

Built in 1937 as a family grocery store, the building in question was known by many in Bismarck for housing the Drumstick restaurant until 1997.

Bank said he's excited about about moving over there because it will provide him with the kitchen facilities to further expand his menu, and a patio to serve as an outside service area.

He has a liquor license pending before the Bismarck City Commission and was approved Monday for a $3,000 Renaissance zone grant to help pay for blue-and-yellow signage, an awning and bistro-style lighting.

"It's just going to be a bunch of fun," Bank said.
