A Bismarck woman has been charged with abuse and neglect of a child after police found her 2-year-old daughter at home alone and locked in a room.
Amy His Horse Is Thunder, 20, was charged Wednesday with the Class C felony in South Central District Court.
She will enter a plea to the charge at a later date.
According to court documents, she also was charged with minor in possession in Bismarck Municipal Court. His Horse Is Thunder pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday, and Bismarck Municipal Judge William Severin sentenced her to one year of unsupervised probation, documents said.
Bismarck Police Lt. Dan Donlin said police were called to a home on the 1000 block of North 11th Street at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a child home alone.
At the home, officers found a 2-year-old girl inside a room that had been secured shut by wedging a screwdriver between the door and the wall, Donlin said.
Officers described the home as dirty and unkempt, he said.
When His Horse Is Thunder was located later in the evening, officers reported she was intoxicated, Donlin said. She was arrested and booked into the Burleigh County Detention Center at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The child was turned over to Burleigh County Social Services and placed in foster care, Donlin said.
