Tony Shelton, 47, of Washington County, Wash., was arrested Thursday night by Mandan police on an out-of-state warrant.

He was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. after leaving a motel on Main Street.

Shelton is wanted for a revocation of probation in Washington following an incident where he allegedly tried to slash the throat of an ex-girlfriend.

"We had a report that a gentleman out of Washington was at one of motels in town who had a warrant for a revocation of probation and they wanted him pretty bad," said Sgt. Jay Gruebele of the Mandan police.

Gruebele said officers set up surveillance on the motel, and when Shelton left, the officers pulled him over for a traffic stop.

After arresting Shelton, officers found a crack pipe in the vehicle. Shelton was charged for a felony C possession of drug paraphernalia in Morton County.

The charge could carry a fine of up to $5,000 and five years in prison. Following the charges, he will await extradition to Washington.
