Prairie Rose Lacemakers Club is giving a bobbin lace demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Bismarck Public Library Main Lobby.

The event is being held in conjunction with the new lobby display at the library featuring Sister Rosalia's lace.

A Franciscan Sister from the convent in Hankinson, Sister Rosalia was born in 1897 in the small town of Schonsee in Bavaria. As a young girl, she attended government-sponsored Royal Bobbin Lace School.

Sister Rosalia created many lace pieces during her years at the convent, 13 of which will be displayed at the library beginning Saturday. Tools of the art also will be on display, courtesy of Prairie Rose Lacemakers.

In 1988, Sister Rosalia was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship, the nation's highest honor for a traditional artist, from the National Endowment for the Arts. Sister Rosalia's lace is on loan from the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
