This summer's Shade Tree Players' performances provide variety.
The largest cast of this season will perform "The Big Bad Musical" on June 25-28 at the High Prairie Arts and Science Complex. Set in a fairy tale courtroom, the Big Bad Wolf is being sued by the fairy tale creatures he has wronged.
"Seven Supremes," July 16-19 at Dakota Stage, features a mythical land, troubled farmers and seven blue tights and red cape donning want-to-be heroes.
On July 23-26 at the High Prairie Arts and Science Complex, the Shade Tree Players' cast will hit the stage with their surfboards in "Wipeout! (A Musical)." A group of surfing kids set out to keep their favorite surf shop and hangout spot safe.
"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" will light up the Dakota Stage July 30 through Aug. 2. All the famous adventures of Tom and Huck Finn will be included.
This year, the Traveling Troupe will perform "Romeo and Juliet or the 'Old You-Know-I-Really-Love You-But-My-Father-Really-Hates-You' Blues," a modern, fast-paced adaptation of Shakespeare's story of star-crossed lovers.
This year the Traveling Troupe will perform at 7 p.m. July 29 at the Dakota Zoo, 7 p.m. July 30 at the old Governor's Mansion, 7 p.m. July 31 at the Mandan Band Shell, 1 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2 at "Capital A'Fair" in the Heritage Center, 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at "Brown Bag in the Park" in Custer Park, 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Bismarck Public Library, 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Eslinger backyard, and 2 p.m. Aug. 8 at the High Prairie Arts and Science Complex.
"Looking Glass Land" is an adaptation of "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll. While the play still contains Carroll's message, a whole batch of original characters are added to the mix. The cast will take the Dakota Stage Aug. 13-16.
On Aug. 20-23 at the High Prairie Arts and Science Complex, a battle between Mr. Fox and his fellow forest inhabitants and the half-wit farmers will ensue in "The Fantastic Mr Fox." This is the first Shade Tree Players' production to incorporate puppetry alongside the actors.
Tickets are $6 for students and $10 for adults.
