A Bismarck man has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly burglarizing the New Salem Pharmacy.

Niko Vournas has been charged with burglary, a Class Cfelony, theft of property, a Class C felony, possession of oxycontin, a Class C felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class Cfelony, and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.

South Central District Judge Tom Schneider set bond for Vournas at $5,000 cash.

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman said an alarm went off in the pharmacy located in the Golden West Shopping Center, 1200 N Eighth Street, at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday. A deputy responded and set up a perimeter around the pharmacy upon seeing that someone had broken glass to gain entry, Shipman said.

He said three other deputies also arrived, and the business was searched. No one was located in the building, but several items were missing, Shipman said.

He said a deputy remembered that Vournas previously had been convicted of burglarizing the business and is on probation. The deputy "had a hunch" Vournas may have been involved in the Wednesday burglary, Shipman said.

He said the deputy contacted Vournas' probation officer, and the deputy and probation officer went to his Bismarck home.

The items stolen from the pharmacy, including narcotic and non-narcotic drugs, were found in the home and Vournas' vehicle, Shipman said.
