A North Dakota National Guard soldier wounded in Afghanistan faces a long recovery, his family says.
Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Wicks, 39, of Bismarck, remained in stable condition Sunday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., said his parents, James and Mary.
Wicks suffered two broken legs, a broken pelvis and internal bleeding in a June 6 bomb attack that killed two other members of the North Dakota National Guard's 188th Air Defense Artillery.
"Doctors have removed the ventilator," the Wicks family said in a statement Sunday. "He is responsive to pain and has movement in his toes and fingers. We are very optimistic he will have a very good recovery. However, it will be a long recovery period. "
