The traditional Swedish Festival of Lights will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1143 N. 26th St. in Bismarck.
Called the Lucia Fest, the celebration of lights helps to brighten the long winter night and celebrates the life of a real saint, Lucia.
During the Lucia Procession, Lucia enters wearing a white gown and a crown of lighted candles.
Children of Swedish ancestry and others wishing to learn more about Swedish traditions are invited to take part in dancing around the Christmas tree. These children should be at the church by 2 p.m. There will be special activities and crafts for children, and the highlight will be the "plundering" of the Christmas tree for the candy-filled Julgranskaramel.
A variety of Scandinavian treats will be served along with coffee and hot chocolate. The freewill offering will go to the Salvation Army. The event is open to the public and sponsored by the Three Crowns Swedish-American Association.
