A man's chirping about the chirping of his neighbor's birds has landed him in the cage.

Bismarck Police Lt. Dan Donlin said a 50-year-old man called 911 at 3:06 p.m. Sunday, complaining about the chirping of his neighbor's birds.

A responding officer attempted to make contact with the bird owner, who was not home, Donlin said. He said the officer told the man to tell his landlord about his problem.

The officer said the man appeared intoxicated, and he was advised not to call 911 about bird chirping again, Donlin said.

The man called 911 again at 5:43 p.m. to complain about the birds, and a dispatcher told him such calls were an inappropriate use of the 911 system and warned him not to do it again, Donlin said. He said the man told the dispatcher he would continue calling 911 until the issue was resolved.

The man was arrested and placed in the Burleigh County Detention Center for making harassing phone calls.

As of Monday afternoon, the man had not been charged and had not posted a $500 bond.
