A songwriter and a commercial printer will be honored at the Bismarck State College Alumni Association Dinner May 10.

Chuck Suchy has been chosen as Alumnus of the Year and Ken Bischof is the recipient of the Rising Star Alumni Award. Recognition events include a dinner for friends, family and associates May 10, and an award presentation during BSC commencement May 11.

Suchy, a 1968 BSC graduate, will be recognized for his musical work and commitment and service to the people and communities of North Dakota through enriching and preserving the state's rural legacy in song. He began playing instruments in second grade and did many public performances through his college years at BSC, where he was involved in music, drama and wrestling. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in mechanized agriculture from North Dakota State University.

Bischof, class of 1992, will be recognized for his success in business and contributions to the community. The award recognizes young alumni for exceptional achievement.

Bischof is president and CEO of United Printing Inc. and co-founded Spit'n Image. He is a BSC Foundation trustee and past director of the BSC Alumni Association board. Bischof also serves on several community boards, including THEO Arts School, Northern Lights Boys Scout Council, United Tribes Technical College Commercial Arts and marketing committee of the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce.

The alumni dinner begins with a social at 6 p.m. and is followed by dinner and a program at 6:30 p.m. in the BSC Student Union. Tickets are $20 per person, with reservations required by May 7. Seating is limited to 200.
