Republican legislators in Bismarck's District 47 announced they will seek re-election to another term in November.
Reps. George Keiser, Lawrence Klemin and Sen. Ralph Kilzer announced Thursday that they plan to seek the endorsement from the Republican Party. The district's nominating convention is being held March 1.
Keiser, president and owner of Quality Printing Service, was first elected to the House in 1993. During the last two legislative sessions he has served as chairman of the Business, Industry and Labor Committee and has previously served as chairman of the Transportation Committee and the Natural Resource Committee. He is currently the chairman of the interim Workforce Safety and Insurance Committee.
Klemin, a lawyer with Bucklin, Klemin & McBride, P.C., has served in the House since 1998. He has been a member of the Judiciary, Government and Veterans Affairs and Constitutional Revision committees. He also represents the Legislature as a commissioner on the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform Laws.
Kilzer, a retired orthopedic surgeon, was first elected to the House in 1996 and to the Senate in 1998. He has served on human services committees in both the House and Senate, and on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. Kilzer was the prime sponsor of the bill that prohibited smoking in most public places.
So far no Democratic challengers have been named.
Craig Fleming, chairman of the District 47 Democrats, said the party has some potential candidates and will be making an announcement in a week or two. The district is holding a nominating convention Feb. 25.
"There's definitely a lot of interest in our district," Fleming said.
Legislative elections occur every two years on a staggered basis. This year all of the odd-numbered districts hold elections.
